Simon Bruslund
Simon Bruslund works as a conservation strategist and practician. Full time Director of Global Development at Copenhagen Zoo, Denmark. Part-time Conservation Curator at Marlow Birdpark in North-Eastern Germany and hold several committee and working group posts under EAZA and IUCN and he is enthusiastically convinced about regional cooperation between institutions and is currently the chair of the EAZA Parrot Taxon Advisory Group, vice-chair of the Songbird Taxon Advisory Group and a vice-chair of the EAZA Conservation Committee. Between 2017 and 2019 he co-chaired the EAZA conservation campaign “Silent Forest” and continue to coordinate the conservation activities initiated by the campaign.
Simon Bruslund does not have the classic academic background but instead started his carrier with a qualification as a zookeeper in Copenhagen Zoo. Since 2002 he is working in positions which are usually filled by biologists. His main scientific interests lie in wildlife trade issues with an ongoing cooperation with the Monitor Conservation Research Society on understanding and tackling wildlife trade concerns. Further research interests are linked to Songbirds, Pigeons & Doves as well as Parrots around topics of population dynamics, small populations management, behaviour and welfare, taxonomy, and husbandry.
Having worked in management roles in zoological collections in Denmark, Germany, Qatar and Spain. His current role is to assist and develop international conservation projects with an emphasis on projects in Morocco, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, French Polynesia, Ecuador and Brazil.
He is absolutely dedicated to wildlife conservation and acknowledge the need to bring people, sometimes of diverse and adverse interests and opinions, together in order to achieve this successfully.
